BMI - About us

BMI invests in early start-ups within the biomedical sector, seeing our prime role as reducing risk and increasing success rates. The result is a faster and more focused development of new drugs and diagnostics, and increased value for the shareholders. We aim to do this by filling the current commercial management resource gap between the TTO spinout and venture capitalist investment stages. This enables us to create a balanced product portfolio with an optimized risk/return profile; a portfolio full of opportunity for international biomedical investors.

BMI was founded in 2004 as a joint venture between Medinnova and Oslo Research Park.  In 2005 BMI signed a development and licensing agreement with GlaxoSmithKline for the use of piboserod in chronic heart failure.  BMI raised about 45 MNOK of private and public capital for the completion of its clinical phase II trial on piboserod.  In 2008 BMI signed a preferred partner agreement with Medinnova and acquired a portfolio of start-ups and projects from The Radium Hospital Research Foundation.  Additional capital of 20 MNOK was raised in April 2008.

BMI has a focus on bringing in the best resources available for each separate project in a cost efficient way. This is achieved through extensive use of our national and international network of medical experts, CROs, patent offices, and contacts within regulatory affairs, pharma companies and venture capital.
